ECC Messages

1/2/12 Church for the Rest of Us Part 1 Ryan Meeks

People are made for a connection.

When sin breaks that connection, humanity struggles.

Reconnection occurs when we Admit, Turn and Trust.

Those who have done so are called the Church.

We are new People, with a new way to live.

Eastlake 2012 is all about...

1. Jesus

"Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior." Ephesians 5:23

"I will build my church, and the gates of death will not overcome it." Matthew 16:18

  • Is Jesus getting anything out of my worship?

2. Joy

"You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me! I sing for joy because of what you have done." Psalm 92:4

"The Lord doesn't see the things the way you see them. People are judged by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

3. Obedience

"If you love me, obey my commandments I have given you." John 14:15

Memory Verse: "Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me." John 14:21

After having head it all, this is the conclusion: Fear God, and keep his commands, because this applies to everyone. Ecclesiastes 12:13

4. Humble Repentance

"If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth. But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness. If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that His word has no place in our hearts." 1 John 1:8-10

  • Nothing will help my soul except a true connection go God.

"Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away. Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord." Acts 3:19-20

5. Acceptance...belonging always precedes belief.

"Go out to the roads and country lanes and compel them to come in, so that my house will be full." Luke 14:23

"May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God" Acts 3:19-20

6. Place of Grace

Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you much clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. make allowance for each others faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony." Colossians 3:12-24

"If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins." Matthew 6:14-15

7. Generosity

"All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes an date together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2 44-47

8. Fervor and Prayer

"...my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations." Isaiah 56:7

"They joined together constantly in prayer." Acts 3 19:20

9. Mission...to save others.

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." Matthew 28: 19-20

"you will receive power when the Holy Spirit Comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and go the ends of the earth." Acts 1:8
